Epsom Salt.JPG
It’s heartbreaking to think of how Epsom salt has been relegated to the bottom shelf in the back of the pharmacy. Where’s the love? I’ve expounded on the miracles of Epsom salt foot soaks and why I prescribe them to patients on a daily basis, but for such a simple substance these little crystals might be the solution to household peace.
I grew up knowing the power of a good old-fashioned Epsom salt bath and was turned on to its clinical uses while studying Asian medicine. However, Epsom salt has become a medicine cabinet staple in my home due the reasons listed below. It’s composed of crystalized magnesium, sulfur and oxygen – which means it’s not used the same way one would use sea salt since there's no sodium in it. It can be used for everything from facial exfoliation to fertilizing your plants. I’ve seen other lists that include (for my friends in the Catskills) using Epsom salt as a raccoon deterrent – but I can’t stand by that one since I haven’t had that problem in Brooklyn. If it works for you, drop me a note and we'll update the list.
  1. Epsom bath soak: Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak for at least 20 minutes to help relieve muscle sprains and tame tendonitis.

  2. Shower and foot scrub: A homemade Epsom scrub can provide a boost of magnesium and super soft skin. Mix 1 cup of Epsom salt with ¼ cup of almond oil and your favorite essential oil. Store any left overs in an airtight container since it will keep for months at a time!

  3. Facial exfoliation: Upgrade your favorite facial cleanser by adding a pinch of Epsom salt for weekly skin exfoliation.

  4. Blackhead removal: Mix a teaspoon of Epsom salt with 3 drops of iodine and ½ cup of hot water. Once the crystals have dissolved, dab the solution to your blackheads with a cotton ball to help naturally extract them.

  5. Hair mask: Combine equal parts of conditioner and Epsom salt and leave on hair for 20 minutes. Rinse well and let air dry for thicker looking silky hair.

  6. Beach hair: Dissolve 2 teaspoons of Epsom salt in 8 ounces of warm water and mix in 1 tablespoon of your favorite hair gel.  Place the solution in a spritz bottle and spray on towel-dried hair that’s still damp. It leaves your hair with that awesome beach look without drying it out.

  7. Super smile: Not only can Epsom salt whiten your teeth, but it helps fight against periodontal disease. Mix equal parts Epsom salt and water. Once the crystals have dissolved, dip you toothbrush into the mixture and brush well. Gargle with the Epsom solution and rinse.

  8. Constipation relief: For occasional constipation, a teaspoon of Epsom salt dissolved in water can help clear the pipes. As always, check with your health care practitioner first.

  9. Splinter removal: Soak in concentrated Epsom salt water solution to soften skin enough to easily pull out a splinter.

  10. Bug bites: Dissolve a tablespoon of Epsom salt in to ½ cup of water. Spritz on itchy skin or apply a wet compress to help relieve itching.

  11. Minor sunburn relief: Mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt with ½ cup of water and spritz on to minor sunburns to help take out some of the heat.

  12. Fabric softener crystals: Mix 4 cups of Epsom salt and 20 drops of essential oil for some homemade fabric softener. Use 1/4 cup per load and add at the beginning of the wash cycle.

  13. Tile/grout cleaner: Mix equal parts of liquid dish soap and Epsom salts to scrub tile and grout. If the grout is especially dirty, add a bit of ammonia to help. Rinse well for a streak free shine. To shine your floors, combine ½ cup of Epsom salt to a gallon of warm sudsy water. Add more salt if your floor tiles are especially dirty.

  14. Roses, tomatoes, and houseplants: Your plants love magnesium just as much as you do! Add a tablespoon of Epsom salt to the soil before planting tomatoes to boost growth. You can also help your houseplants grow by adding a couple tablespoons of Epsom to their water to keep them extra green. Epsom even helps roses bushes; sprinkle a tablespoon a week to the soil around the bush before watering for faster growth.

When you hear the name Marissa Mayer, the first thing that comes to your mind is Yahoo. What most people don’t know, however, is that she has done numerous super impressive things beforebecoming the CEO of Yahoo in July 2012.
We believe that everyone should be aware of her achievements before stepping into Yahoo, so we created her first Enhancv resume that emphasises on Marissa not only as a professional, but also as a student and as a person.
Did you know all these facts about her?
Marissa Mayer Resume
Download Marissa Mayer’s Pre-Yahoo Resume
Marissa Mayer was the 1st female engineer at Google and their 20th employee back in the day when Google was just a startup Larry and Sergey had started at Stanford.
Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, Marissa appears to have always been an overachiever at everything she does.
Taking it back to her years at high school, we can imagine the girl she describes when talking about herself in interviews: shy, geeky and a bit awkward, but a natural born leader and oftentimes the brightest person in the room.
Google’s favorite girl received her education at Stanford, both for Bachelors and Masters, racking up achievements on the way. She excelled in her studies, did various sports, and even volunteered.
Having all of this in mind, it seems more than obvious why Marissa Mayer received 14 different job offers right after completing her degree at the University. The offers were quite prestigious too, including a teaching job at Carnegie Mellon University and a consulting job at McKinsey & Company.
Out of all those options, she chose Google, which set her future career and life path in a very promising direction. According to Marissa, making that choice was not easy.
As she was being overwhelmed by job offers, she gave herself a deadline and started deleting any new incoming emails. She did, however, open the email from Google by accident and the rest is history.
After spending 13 years at Google and participating in the launching of more than 100 features and products, Marissa became the CEO of Yahoo!, getting chosen over their interim CEO Ross Levinsohn.
At that point, Marissa Mayer was 38, a wife, a mother and the chief executive officer of a 30-billion-dollar company.
It’s safe to say that Mrs. Mayer is a big deal, but will she save Yahoo as the company is drowning in front of us? Is their core business really worth $0?
Four years ago the ambitious blonde came in with big plans about making Yahoo a product and media leader, but in order to keep the company going she recently had to do major changes.
Marissa fired 1700 people, which was 15% of Yahoo’s staff, and closed 5 offices in Dubai, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Madrid, and Milan.
As Yahoo’s revenue is falling, their stock is losing value and Marissa has investors attacking her for allegedly spending $7 million on a Gatsby party, everyone is wondering what the future holds for the world’s most famous female CEO. Only time will tell.
If you liked Marissa’s Pre-Yahoo resume, then you will like Mark Zuckerberg’s Pre-Facebook one.

Fast forward to today and Microsoft is announcing PowerShell on Linux powered by .NET Core and it's all open source and hosted at http://GitHub.com/PowerShell/PowerShell.

Holy crap PowerShell on Linux

Jeffrey Snover predicted internally in 2014 that PowerShell would eventually be open sourced but it was the advent of .NET Core and getting .NET Core working on multiple Linux distros that kickstarted the process. If you were paying attention it's possible you could have predicted this move yourself. Parts of PowerShell have been showing up as open source:
  • DSC Resources
  • Script Analyzer
  • Editor Services
  • PowerShell Documentation
  • PowerShell Gallery

GET POWERSHELL EVERYWHERE

Ok, but where do you GET IT? http://microsoft.com/powershell is the homepage for PowerShell and everything can be found starting from there.
The PowerShell open source project is at https://github.com/PowerShell/PowerShell and there are alphas for Ubuntu 14.04/16.04, CentOS 7.1, and Mac OS X 10.11.
To be clear, I'm told this is are alpha quality builds as work continues with community support. An official Microsoft-supported "release" will come sometime later.

WHAT'S POSSIBLE?

This is my opinion and somewhat educated speculation, but it seems to me that they want to make it so you can manage anything from anywhere. Maybe you're a Unix person who has some Windows machines (either local or in Azure) that you need to manage. You can use PowerShell from Linux to do that. Maybe you've got some bash scripts at your company AND some PowerShell scripts. Use them both, interchangeably.
If you know PowerShell, you'll be able to use those skills on Linux as well. If you manage a hybrid environment, PowerShell isn't a replacement for bash but rather another tool in your toolkit. There are lots of shells (not just bash, zsh, but also ruby, python, etc) in the *nix world so PowerShell will be in excellent company.
